Snowpack for the local mountains has stabilized

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Winter is far from over but our avalanche risk is going down.
Conditions on the Coastal Mountains especially have improved over the last few days.
Canadian Avalanche Centre forecaster James Floyer says we are entering a fairly stable period of weather.
“So we’re not seeing a lot of new inputs into the snow into the snow such as a lot of new snow or a lot of wind. It’s actually looking relatively calm. The general snow pack is fairly good, there’s very few weak layers.”
He does add there is still moderate danger for anyone venturing up above the tree line — and warns climbers to watch out for slabs of snow built up by the wind.
