VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Despite delays elsewhere, Vancouver’s Mayor is still optimistic the city is on track to launch its bike share program in a few months from now.
Gregor Robertson says the city will first need to get the bikes.
“I’m hopeful we get them in place by late-spring, early-summer. It’s still in the works,” says Robertson.
Bike share programs have faced delays in a number of American cities.
“We’re in that final waiting period, sorting out the bikes that are coming, and the helmet solution that we have on the ground here, that’s the other piece that we have to make sure is lined up.”
The city is trying to figure out how to distribute helmets to renters.
When the bike share program is launched, it could include at least 125 stations and 1,500 bikes.
