More babies being born in BC

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – More women are having babies in our province. The number of babies born was slightly higher in 2011 than the year before.

Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid says according to the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency, nearly 44,000 babies were born last year, up by a couple hundred in 2010.

What were the most popular names?

“The most widely-selected names for boys were Liam, Ethan, Mason, Lucas, and Benjamin. The top five girl’s names were Emma, Olivia, Sophia, Ava, and Chloe,” says MacDiarmid.

Stats also suggest we’re we’re staying around a lot longer; the life expectancy in BC is 82 years.
