Rainfall warning means tricky driving conditions across BC

FRASER VALLEY (NEWS1130) – A rainfall warning in the Fraser Valley means giant puddles on some roadways — it also means dangerous conditions on our Interior routes.
The rain will equate to a massive amount of snow on the Coquihalla and Okanagan Connector.
About 40 -75 centimetres on the Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector late this afternoon and into tomorrow.
Bob Gilowski with VSA Highway Maintenance says all of their blades and trucks are ready to go but it may be tough to compete with mother nature.
“Make sure that all of our blades are ready to go, all of our trucks are fueled up…all of our abrasive and salt stockpiles are easily accessible. Then we will actually deploy units in some cases to areas where we expect the snow to fall first.”
He says DriveBC has put out travel advisories.
“Those are designed just so people have a very good understanding and knowledge before hand, before they travel. It is probably going to take much longer than it normally would without a severe storm. Watch out for our maintenance vehicles.”
The heaviest rainfall is expected near Hope says Lynn Orstad with the Fraser Valley Regional District
“We do have a heavy flow of water and it can erode the banks. Homeowners, especially if they live near creeks, they should watch the creeks in case they do overflow.”
Whistler will likely also see up to 25 centimetres of new snow before the rain starts to fall around midnight.
There are more weather warnings on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
