Brian Burke fired

TORONTO, ON. (NEWS1130) – The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired president and GM Brian Burke. During his tenure with the team, which began in November of 2008, the Leafs failed to make the playoffs.
On Sunday, just hours after the NHL lockout ended, Burke tweeted, “I’m thrilled we will be back on the ice. I regret what our fans have had to sit through. We are grateful for their loyalty and patience.”
A source tells Sportsnet that Burke’s firing does not mean Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo won’t be traded there.
The Maple Leafs finished a disappointing 13th in the Eastern Conference last season.
Before joining the the club, he previously served as GM for the Canucks from 1998 to 2004. He was also the top boss for the Anaheim Ducks and Hartford Whalers.
