Giants comeback falls short in Southern Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB (NEWS1130) – After trailing 5-1 after one, the Giants scored three times in the second period to get to within a goal, but ultimately fell 7-4 to the Hurricanes. Tyler Morrison had three assists for Vancouver.
Reid Duke had an assist and two goals, including one short handed as the Hurricanes were up 5-0 before the game was 11 minutes old.
Jackson Houck’s 11th on the power play, cut Lethbridge’s lead to 5-1 after 20 minutes.
Eight minutes into the second period, Vancouver native Luca Leone scored his first WHL goal. The Giants finished off the middle frame with markers by Travis McEvoy and Anthony Ast.
Cain Franson added two assists for Vancouver.
Jaimen Yakubowski iced the game for the ‘Canes in the third with two goals, the final one on an empty net.
The G-men lost the final four games of a five-game Alberta road swing.
Earlier in the day, Giants general manager Scott Bonner moved leading scorer, 20-year-old Trevor Cheek to Edmonton for a second round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Bonner also moved 17 year-old defenceman Stewart Coyle to Spokane for a sixth round pick in 2016.
The trade deadline is on Thursday at 2 p.m.
