Canucks lose David Booth four to six weeks

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) –  Vancouver Canucks say forward David Booth will be out of action for four to six weeks with a strained groin.  Booth had an MRI Monday which revealed the strain.  Coach Alain Vigneault confirms that it happened during physical testing in an on-ice skating drill this week.

“My job is to play with the players that are available to our team, and we’ve got quite a few players that are available, good hockey players, and like we’ve always done, we’re going to find ways to make this work,” says Vigneault, who will be scrambling to assemble a second forward line with centre Ryan Kesler missing the start of the season after his off-season shoudler and wrist surgeries.

Vigneault also didn’t rule out moving players like Jordan Shroeder and Andrew Ebbett to the wing.  The two players chances of winning a second-line centre job increased with Kesler’s absence.  Vigneault also believes he has a strong group of players including defencemen who can chip in offensively.

The battle for spots will kick up a notch Wednesday with the first of two player scrimmages.  The Canucks announced the Wednesday and Thursday night intrasquad matches will be three ten minute periods of stop time, followed by a shootout.
