Vancouver to review snow removal plan after priority concerns

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The City of Vancouver will review its snow removal plan, amid concerns some bike routes get precedence over bus routes.
This comes after a slippery day on the roads last month.
Councillor George Affleck brought forward the request after a snowfall on December 19th. “I think there seemed to be some confusion that we heard from staff being reported in the media unfortunately, that they were given instruction on priority routes that, to me, didn’t make much sense.”
Affleck is asking that priority routes be clearly identified. “It doesn’t say Broadway needs to be cleared, Granville, or Burrard, or Hastings or certain bike paths for example, where people who have the guts to ride their bike in the snow should know which routes they can take that would be cleared.”
As a result, council has asked staff to report back on the existing snow removal plan, snow removal resources, and options to increase the priority of bus routes.
