WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – A 24-year-old man from Australia is dead after an accident yesterday morning on Whistler Mountain. The man fell in a steep treed area and suffered head trauma.
“He had taken off his snowboard in an attempt to walk down a steep portion of the hill. It appears that he slipped and he slid down the steep slope and impacted with some trees and he was knocked unconscious,” says Staff Sergeant Steve LeClair.
A woman travelling with the man called for help and the man was taken by air ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital where he died. It’s believed the man had only been in Canada for about one week.
Mounties say it was a crystal clear day, but are warning all skiers and snowboarders to always use extra and to be prepared with the right equipment to be on the mountain.
