Canucks place Vandermeer on waivers

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks have placed defenseman Jim Vandermeer on waivers with the intention of assigning him to the Chicago Wolves farm team.

If 32-year-old Vandermeer clears waivers by the 9 a.m. Pacific Time deadline tomorrow, he will be sent to the American Hockey League.

The Canucks are the seventh team for the veteran Vandermeer who was one of nine defensemen kept by the Canucks on their opening night 23-man roster with the hope he could also play wing if needed.

Vandermeer is on a two-way contract that reportedly pays him $600,000 in the NHL and $275,000 in the AHL. He had been a healthy scratch for the Canucks first two games.

There is speculation that forward Jordan Shroeder, who was left off of the opening day roster could be re-called from the minors.

Today is a day off for the team. The Canucks will return to practice tomorrow. The Calgary Flames visit Rogers Arena on Wednesday night.
