Auditor general offered two-year extension

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – A legislative committee has voted to offer John Doyle a two-year extension as auditor general.
The move is a reversal of an earlier decision by the Liberal-dominated committee not to extend Doyle’s current six-year term.
That decision set off a storm of controversy and resulted in Premier Christy Clark urging the panel to review its decision.
Clark also promised to bring in legislation to extend the term of the auditor from six to eight years and make it a single term.
NDP Caucus Chair Shane Simpson says he’s glad the process is finally over. “People wanted Mr. Doyle re-appointed and the Liberals were feeling the heat and the premier found a way to manage that with this offer of this new legislation, a single eight year term,” says Simpson.
Clark says that would allow the auditor to do his job without worrying about his reappointment.

Doyle has not yet accepted the offer.
