MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – Charges have now been laid in the abduction and assault of a 17-year-old girl in Maple Ridge.
Ian James William Campbell has seven charges against him including kidnapping, assault, assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, and auto theft.
The teen was in the parking lot at Westgate Mall on Saturday night when a man asked her to help him get his car started.
When she walked over to him he pulled out a gun and ordered her to get in her own car before violently assaulting her.
The 25-year-old is being held in custody.
Campbell was arrested Tuesday night in a dramatic takedown in Vancouver, just hours after his photo was released to the public.
Inspector Dave Fleugel with Ridge Meadows RCMP is very thankful to the public for their help in the case.
“This matter is now before the courts. I do want to commend our investigative team for their diligence in working around the clock to pull this case together. It is a complex investigation, and there is still work to do. I would again like to thank all citizens who provided information that allowed investigators a chance to solve this incident so fast. It speaks to the great relationship Ridge Meadows RCMP has with their citizens, and how we all can pull together to keep our communities safe,” he says.
