Luongo to get start against Colorado

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks are back on home ice, playing the first of four meetings with the Colorado Avalanche and will stay with Roberto Luongo in goal, giving Luongo his second-straight game in net after playing Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.
“It’s my call. I just got back yesterday and that’s what I decided,” said Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault who did not want to get into the reasons for his choice of goalies. Luongo says he just gets ready to play every day and when he is called upon, he just wants to be ready.
Luongo has a pair of shootout losses but his 2.21 goals-against average and .917 save percentage are better numbers than Schneider’s 3.13 GAA and .897 save percentage.
A visit by their Northwest Division rivals could be just what the Canucks need, after a modest 2-2-2 start. Vancouver swept six games from Colorado last season and has won seven straight in the series dating back to Jan. 18th, 2011. Both teams are struggling with the man advantage. While the Canucks are 0-10 on the powerplay in the past two games, the Avalanche have just one goal in 16 power play attempts and have allowed nine goals in 31 short-handed situations.
The Avalanche, like the Canucks are coming off a loss, dropping a 4-1 decision to Edmonton Monday night and will likely be without young captain Gabriel Landeskog again. Landeskog is recovering from a big hit delivered by San Jose’s Brad Stuart. The Avalanche are also among the worst in the league with an average of two goals per game.
