A hefty sum still needed for the VAG to move locations

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Art Gallery says it still needs to come up with more than $200 million in fundraising for its desired new location at the old bus depot site on Georgia Street at Cambie.

Kathleen Bartels with the Gallery says they already have a substantial nest egg.

“We already have over $50 million in the bank from the Province of British Columbia and other gifts, and then another approximate $40 million pledged upon site confirmation,” she explains.

“We feel very confident, we have a very strong fundraising record of accomplishment at the Gallery,” Bartels adds.

A report is going to city council soon but the new site will also need federal funding.

Bartels says if all goes as planned, the new location could be open in seven or eight years.
