Charges laid in connection with West End stabbing

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A 33-year-old Vancouver man is facing 12 charges in connection with the stabbing spree that sent six people to hospital.
Jerome Bonneric is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of common assault and one count of assaulting a police officer.
He is not known to police.
Bonneric is in custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Monday.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he has most recently worked at a french bakery in Port Coquitlam. Previous to that, he was employed as a consultant at BNP Paribas Real Estate for over two years.
His profile indicates that he has his Master’s degree in real estate and Bachelor of Law in business law, both of which he earned in France.
Seven people were injured; six sent to hospital following the attack at an apartment building on Barclay near Bute at around 6:45 p.m.
Two victims remain in hospital, one is stable and the other is in very serious condition.
Vancouver’s mayor says he is shocked by the random attack.
Gregor Robertson calls it very disturbing, he is also waiting to hear what provoked the attack.
“It is a sickening feeling when you hear that kind of thing hit, with that many people affected out of the blue like that. We’ll look forward to hearing more, learning more, and hearing what kinds of steps can be taken to prevent it from happening again.”
With the suspect in custody Robertson does hope officers can get to the bottom of it soon. It’s believed Bonneric was visiting a friend who lived in the building.
“We’ve seen violent crime drop quite dramatically in Vancouver for a number of years now, so when there are these kinds of clashes it is quite troubling. We’re really just tracking those that have gone to hospital and hoping they pull through healthy.”
Neighbours say it’s a quiet, nice neighbourhood that hardly ever has any problems.
