VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Recent shootings and stabbings have one Vancouver School Board trustee worried.
Ken Denike is calling for better policies like tighter door security. But that’s not all, “We need to look at, for example communication, direct communication links to emergency services, we need that, we don’t seem to have an emergency button, etc. Are we building new facilities that keep in mind?”
He says some worried parents have transferred their kids to private schools and is raising questions about safety protocols.
Denike wants entrance to schools examined as well. “We’ve had a position/reputation for open schools with basically all the doors open in all the schools, given the situation we’ve found in the US, and some of our own lockdowns, and a situation in the West End, a block from one of our elementary annex’, I have a real concern that we look at the matter of safety and we do this through examining policies and the facilities.”
The board will be discussing the issue on Monday.
