Mexico backing off grandparent law

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Mexico is backing off on the so-called Grandparent Law that was supposed to kick in later this month for Canadian travelers.
It will save you a ton of paperwork if you’re taking someone else’s kids out of the country.
It would have required minors who were going to Mexico with anyone other than their legal guardian to have piles of documents with them.
Travel expert Claire Newell is happy it’s been suspended. “Documents are going to have to be issued in Canada, then notarized, then translated into Spanish, authenticated and then legalized by the Mexican consulate or embassy.”
If you’re taking someone else’s kids with you on a Mexican vacation you still need a valid passport for the minor and a notarized letter from the minor’s parents.
