VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Milos Raonic took out Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to lift Canada to it’s first ever triumph in a Davis Cup World group tie, as Raonic won two of the three matches for Canada.

The 15th ranked player from Thornhill, Ontario in the world was in full control in the match versus the Spaniard who is ranked 67 spots lower than Raonic.

Raonic and Frank Dancevic both won their singles matches on Friday at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at UBC.

Spain won the doubles match on Saturday in five set over Vancouver’s Vasek Pospisil and Daniel Nestor.

Dancevic lost the final match to Albert Ramos 7-5, 6-4, making the official score for the weekend, 3-2 for the Canucks.

Spain was the number one ranked country in the world but did not have Rafa Nadal or David Ferrer, who are both ranked in the top five on the planet.

For the first time ever this country will compete in the quarter-finals. Canada will meet Italy at the beginning of April.
