VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Recovering alcoholics always hope they won’t ever fall off the wagon.
But researchers at UBC have now found a way to predict if they will and how bad the bender might be.
It all comes down to body language; observers found newly-sober people who showed signs of shame were destined to hit the bottle again.
They say physical signs, like slumped shoulders or narrow chests, are directly tied to the number of drinks an alcoholic will have on that first binge after giving up sobriety.
The researchers found subconscious physical mannerisms are a powerful sign of future relapse; however, written expressions of shame offer almost no clues at all.
