New rental database hopes to keep tenants in the know

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Naming and shaming bad landlords is one purpose of a new website launched by the City of Vancouver.

The online rental database will allow tenants to scope out problem buildings.

Councillor Tim Stevenson says it’s an idea that was born in 2011, and now 70,000 units can be searched.

“Any rental buildings over five units and also this includes SRO’s, it includes supportive housing, social housing. It doesn’t include condos or secondary suites.”

Taxpayers don’t have to pay for this system, as it’s all part of existing IT operations within the city.
