Cougars claw back in the third to beat Giants

PRINCE GEORGE (NEWS1130) – Prince George native Jari Erricson had a pair of goals and an assist, as the Cougars scored three times in the third period, including an empty net goal to overtake Vancouver 6-4 in the WHL.
After giving up the first goal 90 seconds into the game, Vancouver had goals from Brendan Rouse, Travis McEvoy and Riley Kieser in the final 7:08 of the opening frame to give the Giants a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.
The Cougars pulled goalkeeper Mac Engel after the period and replaced him with Ty Edmonds who played the rest of the game and allowed just one goal on 19 shots.
Cain Franson’s 20th goal of the season, kept Vancouver up 4-3 after two periods.
Erricson tied the game 70 seconds into the the third period. Teammate Troy Bourke nabbed the game winner seven minutes later.
Ryan Hanes capped the evening with an empty net goal.
Prince George native Jared Rathjen made 36 saves in the Vancouver goal.
The two teams meet again on Saturday night in Prince George.
