Speed a factor in fatal crash in Downtown Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Police are trying to figure out whether the driver in a deadly rollover crash on the Georgia Street Viaduct early this morning may have been racing at the time. It happened around Prior Street and Gore Avenue around 3 a.m.
The crash involved one car and there were four men inside when it hit a curb and crashed into a pole and a tree. The car was speeding eastbound on the Viaduct at the time of the crash.
Constable Brian Montague says the 22-year-old driver of the car was killed while three others between the ages of 20 and 24-years-old were taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition. “There was only one car directly involved at this point from what I can see. The damage is quite severe.”
“[Racing] is something we’re going to look into. As you can tell by the damage here, speed is a definitely going to be a factor,” he adds.
What’s left of the car was on its roof for several hours as investigators laid down cones and markers. The bumper was found about 50 feet from the scene.
The names of the victims are not being released at this time. Police will be speaking to witnesses throughout the day. Anyone who saw anything is asked to call the VPD Collision Investigation Unit at 604.717.3012.
