Fraser Health reporting improvements in treatment

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Fewer patients are being treated in hallways, and the spread of an infection commonly found in hospitals has been reduced.
A new report from Fraser Health says there have been improvements in the delivery of care throughout the region.
For one, the study says the number of people treated in ‘non clinical locations’ — like hallways — has been reduced by 60 per cent.
Martha Cloutier with Fraser Health says the spread of C. difficile, a common bacteria in hospitals, has been cut by almost 40 per cent.
She credits the bedside to boardroom approach, which has set time limits and other benchmarks to move patients through the healthcare system.
“It wasn’t only the emergency program that was a focus. We all gathered together as a team,” she explains.
The health-care goals were implemented after Burnaby General Hospital came under fire last spring for dozens of C. difficile-related deaths.
