Agreement reached between BC Place workers and management

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – This should be a relief for those of you who have been looking forward to the Home and Garden Show, Whitecaps games, or any other events at BC Place.

Workers and management have finally reached a tentative contract, and the BC Government and Service Employee Union is urging its members to vote yes and ratify the deal.

Karen Tankard with the union says it includes a four per cent raise over the next couple of years, and it improves scheduling and job security. “We have no action planned, other than taking this agreement to our members and getting it ratified as quickly as we can. It’s business as usual at BC Place.”

Picket lines at the stadium went up last month, but the union took them down on January 31st as a show of good faith, after mediated talks resumed.

The contract also includes new procedures for dealing with workplace bullying but details haven’t been released.
