VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Are you having a problem with a 24-hour party house across the street?
The province is creating a new agency to take anonymous complaints about crack shacks and other problem properties.
“There are neighbourhoods in British Columbia where people are selling and using drugs… we’ve even included things like prostitution,” says Justice Minister Shirley Bond.
She tells us other provinces have similar agencies and it’s time that BC joined them to keep neighbourhoods safe.
“What we want to do is create a piece of legislation that would allow us to have neighbours confidentially report their concerns to an agency that would then work very constructively with the police.”
Abbotsford Police Chief Bob Rich says chronic offenders often live in problem locations that can make entire neighbourhoods seem chaotic. He thinks the new agency will compliment the work done by police departments.
