BC retail sales fell in December

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The retail sector in BC and across Canada had a disappointing December, which is supposed to be the biggest month of the year for most of them.

Retailers in this province rang up sales of $5.07 billion, down 0.2 per cent from a year earlier. It was the third consecutive month of year-over-year declines, after drops of 0.8 per cent and 1.1 per cent in November and October.

All provinces experienced sales drops in December, pushing the nationwide total down 0.7% to $38.6 billion.

The results mirror the local and global slowdown in economic growth late last year.
