Christy Clark apologizes for plan to win ethnic votes

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – The premier is apologizing for a plan that would have used provincial resources to win ethnic votes and she’s launching a review into the matter.
The opposition NDP released documents yesterday with the Liberal’s plans to get ‘quick wins’ from ethnic voters.
Christy Clark has appointed her deputy minister to conduct the review, making sure no government resources were inappropriately used.
“The document did not recognize that there are lines that cannot be crossed in conducting this outreach and it is unacceptable. The language in this draft document and some of the recommendations are absolutely inappropriate,” she says in a statement.
Bill Chiu with Canadians for Reconciliation wants all voters to be treated equally.
“I don’t think that multiculturalism should be abused to this extent, meaning targeting individual minorities in the province as a way to get votes,” explains Chiu.
New Democrat Mike Farnworth says he’s never seen anything like this. “I’ve been in this house almost 20 years, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a government as humbled or humiliated in this fashion.”
He cautions the BC Liberals that actions speak louder than words.
Liberal House leader Rich Coleman is promising a quick, public investigation.
