VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks will be sporting maroon jerseys tonight when they host the Detroit Red Wings. The Canucks will wear 1915 Vancouver Millionaires jerseys, in honour of the Stanley Cup winning team.
The Canucks and Red Wings will meet for the second time this season, after Detroit earned an 8-3 victory at home on Feb. 24.
Vancouver is coming off back-to-back wins, which came after a string of four straight losses. The Canucks finally broke out offensively in a 7-4 win over Nashville on Thursday. Seven different players scored in the win.
Roberto Luongo gets the nod in goal for Vancouver for a third straight game. He’ll be sporting his new Millionaires mask in addition to the maroon jersey.
The Red Wings will be playing their second game in two days as they came from behind to beat the Oilers 3-2 in overtime last night.
Jannik Hansen is the hottest Canuck going right now. His goal and two assists versus Nashville give him four goals and five assists in his past seven games.
Vancouver’s powerplay has been ice cold this month. The Canucks last scored a goal with the man-advantage on Feb. 21, going 0 for 24 during that span.
“I think the last three or four games have been better,” says captain Henrik Sedin. “It’s not the execution or passing and shooting, it’s retrieving pucks and getting pucks back. When you see us at our best is when we spend 35-40 seconds in their end, and that hasn’t happened,” adds Henrik.
With Jimmy Howard having played last night, it’s likely that Jonas Gustavsson will start in goal for Detroit. Gustavsson is winless in two career games against Vancouver.
Game time at Rogers Arena is 7 p.m.
