Former owner of Ikea monkey needs help fundraising

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – The former owner of the Ikea monkey wants your help.

Yasmin Nakhuda is trying to raise cash to continue her custody battle for the cute, little primate that was found wandering around a Toronto Ikea last winter in a stylish shearing coat.

Nakuda will be hosting a fundraising dinner on April 6. “We’re trying to raise money to fund the very costly legal battle of trying to get Darwin back.”

“It’s been very hard. We’ve tried twice and we’ve lost twice. We’re not going to give up,” she adds.

So far, they have sold half of the $75 tickets. On that day she will also release the first of 12 children’s books based on the monkey.

“I thought maybe I should, for myself and my own way of giving myself therapy, write things about him where I can imagine him being happy and doing the mischievous things he normally does,” she explains.

She says they are fighting hard to get Darwin back. “Darwin is part of us. It’s very difficult to forget.”
