Property stolen from landslide victims recovered

By

KASLO (NEWS1130) – Mounties are calling it the case of a guilty conscience at work.  Some of the property stolen a few days ago from those victimized in the Johnson’s Landing landslide last summer has been recovered.

Corporal Dan Moskaluk is crediting a sharp-eyed person living in the area for pointing them in the right direction.  “They were left roadside just east of Highway 31 in and around the Kaslo area there.”

It’s mostly the bigger items that have been found including: hand tools, a snow plow and a lawn tractor.  “Certainly it shakes everybody up.  Certainly I know there are probably eyes on all right now that are looking to cooperate with police and help us along with solving this heinous crime.”

Moskaluk adds it takes a real low-life to steal from people who had their homes hit by the landslide last year.  They still haven’t been able to return because the slope is to unstable.

There are still more items police are hoping to track down.  If you or anyone you know has more information you are asked Kaslo RCMP at 250.353.2225 or CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
