Women’s World Cup final game to be held in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver will be hosting yet another major sporting event.  The final game of the Women’s 2015 World Cup will be played in BC Place.

We knew Vancouver was one of several Canadian cities where games would be played, but the decision on the final game was kept a secret until today.

Paul Mullen with the BC Soccer Association says getting this is a huge boost, not only for Vancouver but the whole province.

“Over the next couple of years there’s going to be even more growth in the game and I think there’s going to be a lot more excitement in building towards it.  I think the whole of the province should be very proud of and should be excited about.”

He adds the event will have far reaching effects beyond the worldwide audience.  “The biggest, single women’s sporting event is going to bring soccer into the spotlight and the women’s game as well.  We’re almost 43 per cent of our overall participation is girls and women in BC,” he adds.

The tournament is slated to start June 6th, 2015 and the final set will take place on July 5th.
