Locally-based Freybe Gourmet Foods being taken over

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – A locally-based maker of deli meats is being taken over after six generations of family ownership.

Freybe Gourmet Foods is being bought by Premium Brands for $55 million, which is adding it to labels including Grimm’s and Harvest.

Richmond-based Premium says it will transfer a “significant portion” of its deli meat production to Freybe’s Langley plant.

CEO Sven Freybe will continue to lead the Freybe division, while long-time chairman Henning Freybe is retiring.

Freybe was started in Europe 168 years ago.
