SURREY (NEWS1130) – People who live in Surrey’s Panorama Ridge neighbourhood believe the city is moving in the right direction to reduce crime.
The area’s Colebrook Road has been in the news recently, because of four bodies dumped there since the end of January.
Bob Campbell with the West Panorama Ridge Ratepayers Association is very pleased with a meeting on Thursday which included Surrey’s mayor plus city engineers, park reps, police and fire personnel.
He says they’re tired not only of the murders, but of the petty crime.
“We had one case, on one of our main streets, where thieves actually knocked down the metal fence in front of someone’s property and took it away,” he notes.
He says homeowners want more community policing, plus something done about what he calls derelict housing.
“Quite a bit of this goes on in the Ridge. There are large parcels slated for development. Landlords board houses up in the meantime, but people go and live in them. The houses then become centres of crime. The people in them light fires and turn them into meth labs,” he explains.
Colebrook Road had now been outfitted with security cameras, and police say, as a result, complaints related to the area have virtually stopped.
