DENVER, CO (NEWS1130) – Jan Hejda’s first goal of the year with 7.6 seconds left in the third period lifted Colorado over Vancouver 4-3. It was the first time in 21 starts the Avs defeated the Canucks in regulation.
Vancouver had won 10 in a row versus the Avs, but Hejda’s low blast from the left point beat Cory Schneider on the stick side.
Gabriel Landeskog had the only goal of the first as Vancouver’s Kevin Bieksa fed the Avs captain with a perfect pass in the slot.
Maxim Lapierre and Jannik Hansen put the Canucks up 2-1 in the second, less than two minutes apart.
Early in the third period, Lapierre had his stick lifted behind the net as Ryan O’Reilly fed Cody McLeod to tie the game 2-2.
Jason Garrison regained the lead for the Canucks soon after with his sixth of the season on a low point shot that beat JS Giguere.
The Avs tied the game when Garrison could not tie up PA Parenteau in front of the net. That goal tied the game at 3-3.
On the game winner, Vancouver’s Derek Roy had a chance to clear the puck out of the Canucks zone, but did not get it past the blue line.
It was the final time Vancouver played Colorado in the Northwest Division, as the Canucks will play with Phoenix, the two Alberta teams and the three California squads in a new division next season.
The Canucks play in Nashville on Monday.
