Adam Scott becomes first Australian to win Masters

By

AUGUSTA, GA (NEWS1130) – Adam Scott won the green jacket at the 2013 Masters golf tournament . He became the first Australian to win the tournament as he edged Angel Cabrera with a birdie on the second playoff hole.

Scott thought he had won the tournament on the 72nd hole when he drained a long birdie putt to go to the top of the leaderboard at nine under par.

Cabrera was still on the 18th hole and hit a gorgeous approach shot. The 2009 champion sunk the short birdie putt to force the 16th playoff in Masters history. It was the first time two international players had played in a playoff at Augusta.

The two players were both short on their approach shots on the first playoff hole, which was the 18th. They both chipped the ball close and made their respective par putts.

Off to the tenth hole, and Cabrera just missed his birdie putt.

Scott drained his 12 foot putt to earn his first green jacket on a very rainy, soggy final day.

Fellow Australian Jason Day finished third at seven under par.

Another Australian, Marc Leishman was tied for fourth with Tiger Woods.
