VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Your neighbour may scream “get off my lawn!” but here in the City of Vancouver the message is “please, walk on the grass!”
The Vancouver Park Board is putting up signs at Stanley Park and the more than 200 other parks in the city inviting the public to do just that.
“There’s all kinds of signs saying, ‘don’t do this, don’t do that’ and we want people to know these are their parks, so where there’s grass people can go on them now,” says Vision commissioner and board chair Sarah Blyth.
She says for many people, the parks function like backyards.
“If you live in an apartment building, these are the only greenspaces you have to go to,” she adds.
The only place you’re not allowed to walk on the grass is at the formal quarry gardens in Queen Elizabeth Park, and that’s to protect the floral display.
