NANAIMO (NEWS1130) – The bodies of three puppies have been found in a lake on Vancouver Island.

Westwood Lake caretaker Lois Brammer says she was doing her rounds Wednesday morning in Nanaimo when she found a body of a floating shih tzu. She says she crawled out of her wheelchair to scoop the dog from the water and found two more puppies submerged under a log.

She adds on the same day, she forbade a woman from selling puppies at a park for $500 each.

Sue Hughes of Coastal Animal Services, a company that provides animal-control services to the city, calls the incident terrible, shocking, and unnecessary. She says if people want to get rid of their puppies, they can leave them in a box on the company’s doorstep or drop them off at the SPCA.
