VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Hundreds packed a warehouse in East Vancouver Saturday for the annual Vancouver Police auction.
Everything from high-end bikes to luxury-brand jewelry to gold bars to oddities like a bag of toothpaste were on offer.
One shopper says he was there to feed his addiction.
“I have that disease. It’s like being the winner! But this is the first time I got off the wagon.”
His wife Linda tried to keep him in check.
“He used to go to auctions and come home with a lot of stuff. I said no more. For every truckload you bring home, you take a truckload out of here. So then he stopped going.”
Leah came by for the tech gear and for the “rush.”
“There’s two MacBook Pros, so we’re hoping to get one of those. I don’t know, you sort of just get caught up in the moment. You’re bidding against people and you’re trying to get a good deal but you’re caught up in the moment too. It’s kind of thrilling, actually. It’s fun!”
She has a strategy to avoid disappointment. “Play it low key, pretend like you don’t want it.”
All of the goods up for grabs have been recovered by the VPD and have gone unclaimed for six months.
