SURREY (NEWS1130) – The RCMP says it’s not responsible for monitoring those single occupant vehicles cheating the toll system on the Port Mann Bridge.
This comes after a story brought to you by News1130 on Monday. Several people are crossing into the HOV lane just before the sensor while getting onto the bridge, by doing so they are getting a 25 per cent discount.
TreO, the company in charge of collecting tolls said it can’t monitor that system and really it falls under RCMP.
“The only thing we will do in that area is to look for HOV, we don’t care if people are trying to cheat TreO, that’s not our mandate,” says Corporal Robert McDonald.
McDonald says more often than not police are stationed at the end of the bridge meaning they don’t see if people cross into the HOV lane at the start and cross back after.
So the question is still out there. Who is keeping track of those cheating the system?
