Adrian Dix preparing to break his silence

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – What’s next for Adrian Dix?

The NDP leader is expected to tackle that question at a news conference in Downtown Vancouver at noon today.

It’s been more than a week since the stunner of an election result that saw the Liberals add to their majority, despite trailing in the polls for months.

Expectations on Dix were high heading into the May 14th vote, with many pundits saying it was his to lose.

“For the better part of a year, the NDP thought they were going to win the election and I think most New Democrats thought that they were going to win the election when the polls closed at 8 o’clock last Tuesday,” notes political scientist Hamish Telford with the University of the Fraser Valley.

“Unfortunately, Adrian Dix didn’t deliver for the party.”

Telford says the surprise loss may have triggered some intense soul searching for the leader as well.

“I’m sure he’s discussed it with his wife and extended family and he’s probably sounded out people in the party and in the caucus to try and get a sense of where he stands with them,” he explains.

Some high profile NDPers think Dix must be held accountable for his refusal to run a negative campaign and for flip-flopping on the Kinder Morgan pipeline proposal.
