Clark needs to engage young voters: NDP member

By

COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – It’s been two weeks since the BC Liberals won the provincial election, and a well-known NDP party member is warning the premier to start listening to younger voters.

Punk band D.O.A. founder turned political activist Joe Keithley says young people will continue to be apathetic towards elections unless Christy Clark takes their needs into account.

“I would drop interest on all student loans. Not forever — people have to pay them back… but education and skills training are two of the most important things that we can do for young people. They’re spending too much money on their education, and when they get out, the jobs are not there.”

Keithley believes Clark needs to get youth involved in the democratic system well before the election if she wants to get them to the polls. “She should try the practical [approach], rather than this pie-in-the-sky, ‘We’re going to solve the provincial debt with these LNG plants [idea].'”

Keithley ran for the NDP nomination in Coquitlam Burke-Mountain, but was beaten by wrestler Chris Wilson.
