BALTIMORE (NEWS1130) – A freight train has derailed in suburban Baltimore, causing an explosion heard for miles.
The CSX cargo train may have collided with a truck, sending the driver to the hospital and several train cars off the tracks. Two of the cars exploded, destroying and damaging nearby buildings and rattling homes in the Baltimore-suburb of White Marsh.
Chemicals began to burn immediately after the crash, but officials say they’re not toxic. The fire department ordered a 20-block evacuation as a precaution.
