KAMLOOPS (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions can begin putting last November’s CFL Western Final loss to Calgary behind them today as they officially begin 2013 training camp with the rookies reporting to Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.
“A lot of these guys are from the US so they’ve never even seen our game, so the three days obviously is a tremendous amount of information for them but you know, once they get on the field and see the difference in the motions and the width of the field, I think that gets them better prepared for when the veterans come on Sunday,” says Lions general manager Wally Buono.
Buono says a key to making an impression for the younger players is to show that they can grasp the system, because the coaches aren’t very patient with the younger players and have to see that the players can learn.
Just under 100 players are in Kamloops, including the veterans.
The three-day rookie camp begins today with the first practise session at 3 p.m. at Kamloops’ Hillside Stadium. The veterans will go through physicals on Saturday with the main camp opening on Sunday.
The Lions’ first preseason game is in Calgary on Friday, June 14th.
