VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Three people, including two teenagers, ended up in intensive care last weekend after over-dosing at what police are calling a “dance party.”
Police say they took GHB, which is a common ‘date rape drug.’ The 14, 15, and 20-year-olds were foaming at the mouth.
Sergeant Randy Fincham says these cases could have been deadly. “Whether that was a lethal concentration in dosage or volume, or if it was a dose that was a mix of an unknown substance… The problem with GHB and all these other street level drugs is that they are manufactured in someone’s basement.”
Police say more than 100 people were at the party at the Polish Veterans Hall on Kingsway Friday night.
“We would like to encourage parents to have a conversation with their children regarding the harmful and potentially lethal consequences of consuming both recreational and prescription drugs,” adds Fincham.
Many people who were at the party were on drugs or alcohol. Those who hosted the event are cooperating with police.
