Dozens turn out for “kiss-in” protest at Russian Consulate

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They locked lips to protest Russia’s policies on homosexuality.

About four dozen people held a “kiss-in” outside the Honorary Russian Consulate in Vancouver.

Organizer Yogi Omar hopes his demonstration catches on right around the world. “Our rights to exist is still illegal in so many countries and I think we have to help them fight for this.”

Omar says he’s already been contacted by activists in other cities.

“I feel like the best way to fight back is with love and kindness, and this is my way to show love and kindness, because in Russia, if you’re trying to do something like this is, it’s considered gay propaganda. For us here, it’s just love and support.”

He hopes the idea grows in time for a worldwide protest in October.
