Osoyoos being overrun by geese: Mayor

OSOYOOS (NEWS1130) – Last year it was feral rabbits. This year it’s geese.

Communities across the province say they’re being overrun by the big birds.

Osoyoos Mayor Stu Wells says it’s a big problem in his town.

“They defecate about three pounds per day, per bird, in our park land. It’s really quite an unhealthy situation.”

He says other places like Richmond, Vancouver and Saanich are dealing with it too.

That’s why when community leaders get together at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention next month, he’ll be looking for support for a motion that calls for the province to be a little more lenient when it comes to giving out kill permits.

“I just hate the word ‘cull’ it just upsets me, but I will use it here.”
