Committee questions Deloitte Auditors about interference

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – A Senate committee put auditors from Deloitte on the hot seat Thursday after allegations surfaced that there may have been interference in their examination of Sen. Mike Duffy’s expenses.
The RCMP alleged-as part of a secret $90, 000 deal- that Sen. Irving Gerstein called a partner at Deloitte to try and get information and influence the audit.
The three auditors faced more than an hour of questioning Thursday, but Alan Stewart with Deloitte said they weren’t involved in leaking details.
“No confidential information was provided out of the investigative team. I dont know where that information came from but it did not come from the investigative team,” Stewart said.
The auditors insisted during questioning that they did not know how the prime minister’s office obtained a draft report. However, the lead investigator on the file did confirm he received a call from his boss who inquired about the audit, but he did not report the call and claimed he never disclosed details to his boss.
Following the meeting, the Deloitte team shoved past reporters, refusing to say why a partner may try to influence an audit in his own firm.
Meanwhile, the Conservative led committee has refused to ask Sen. Irving Gerstein and the Deloitte boss to testify.
Deloitte is the audit firm that manages the Conservative Party fund.
