Introductory Port Mann toll rate extended

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The province seems to be backing away from a plan to boost the price of the toll on the not-yet-finished Port Mann Bridge.

The half-price “introductory rate” given to people who signed up to pay online is being extended one month, to January 1.

The increased fee was supposed to kick in on Sunday, even though much of the Highway One Improvement Project isn’t finished yet.

Greg Johnson with TReO says the toll was never going to increase until the extra lanes west of the bridge were open.

“Those lanes are scheduled to open up before Christmas. In most places along the corridor it will be four lanes through Highway 1,” he says.

The two lanes that aren’t open on the bridge itself won’t be operational until the summer.
