Clipper Navigation admits security failure in theft of ferry

SEATTLE (NEWS1130) – A day after a popular passenger ferry that runs between Seattle and Victoria was stolen the people behind the Victoria Clipper ferry admit it shouldn’t have happened.

Darrell Bryan is CEO of Clipper Navigation and says protocols weren’t followed before the catamaran was commandeered. “Because a couple of our security steps were not followed by individuals that would have precluded him getting into the wheelhouse.”

The ferry was drifting not far from the Seattle terminal when police swooped in and boarded it.

They’ve arrested Samuel McDonough and say he is a registered sex offender who is wanted on a warrant. He apparently told police he was trying to cross Puget Sound.
