Bone-chilling weekend temperatures for the Lower Mainland

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – Is it cold enough for you yet? We hope not, because it’s only going to get more frigid!
News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate has been warning us about the possibility of record-breaking temperatures, but we haven’t set any just yet. “Only because… today’s all-time record low from 1980 was minus-12.2! Thank goodness we’re not that low yet!”
It was about minus-six early this morning, with the wind re-developing off the mountains, swirling at about 20 km/h for most of Metro Vancouver.
“It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s giving us wind-chill equivalents of around minus-12, minus-13,” explains Russ.
“The sun is out all day today; your high is minus-2. And then the wind really starts to howl; late tonight and into the morning hours tomorrow, that’s when the dangerous wind chills are in your forecast right across the Lower Mainland.”
Russ tells us the forecast looks clear tonight and sunny tomorrow. “But the overnight low is minus-10 with wind chill values of 20-below in many parts of the Lower Mainland. The hardest-hit areas will be in the Fraser Valley.”
“The high tomorrow is minus-3 in the sun; it actually stays freezing-cold even on Sunday, as it gradually clouds over,” he adds.
